AT PAWRS this year vehicle safety and visibility technology experts, Innovative Safety Systems Ltd (ISS) will be showing how their ultra robust safety products help fleet operators in the waste management sector make cost savings as well improve their safety record.

ISS supplies, installs and maintains the full range of safety and lighting products including reversing radars, CCTV camera systems, warning beacons and LED lighting packages. Earlier this year the company installed a Hard Disk Recording system to refuse vehicles operating in the City of London’s Square Mile, for the first time in the capital’s history.

Gavin Thoday, Director, said: “Demand for safety equipment is definitely growing, and it is proving to address not one but a number of issues. Foremost the safety of crews and the general public is greatly enhanced, and operators can monitor best practice, but increasingly there are real cost saving drivers.

Gavin continued: “For example, Hard Disk Recording allows for up to 3 months worth of recording so a council can look back at a particular day and time. Such information can help to foil any false insurance claims and save local authorities significant amounts of money.”

ISS also designs and engineers bespoke safety products to client’s specifications and works across a number of industry sectors. It is currently piloting its Cyclist Warning Display System (CWDS), designed to reduce the number of collisions between cyclists and HGV’s, particularly in busy, urban environments. Although cycling casualty rates in general are falling, 40% of cyclist fatalities in 2012 involved an HGV or similar vehicle. The CWDS is included in Transport for London’s ‘HGV cycle safety technology procurements guide’.
